Renault has confirmed it will show the new Koleos at the 2016 Beijing motor show – and this is the first photograph of its new large crossover.
Few details have been issued yet, but this picture was scrambled after an early leak ahead of the world debut planned for 25 April.
A brief statement issued by Paris to accompany the photo says: ‘Renault rounds off its high-end range with a brand new D-segment SUV, the new KOLEOS.
‘The new model will play a key role in Renault’s product offensive that has seen a record-breaking year with the introduction of 10 new vehicles across the world.’
Will the new Koleos be sold in the UK?
Sounds like it. The car has been designed and engineered for global sales, Renault states, although it is also aimed at the Chinese market where the company opened a new factory in Wuhan in spring 2016. A European launch is expected in 2017.
The last Koleos was a shortcut product developed by Renault’s partner Samsung and it was sold in Britain from 2008-2011; it did little to wow our road testers when we first drove it, and it failed to capture buyers’ imaginations.
On first impressions, the 2016 Koleos looks more promising. It resembles a giant Captur, blending the La Regie’s latest design treatment into a full-size SUV footprint. Renault promises it’ll be a particularly roomy crossover (with ‘record room for passengers’) but insists it’ll have some ‘all-terrain ability’, too.
